For the purpose of DrugBank, a clinical trial is any research study that prospectively assigns human participants or groups of humans to one or more drug or placebo interventions to evaluate the effects on health-related biomedical or behavioural outcomes 1,2.

A drug searched in the DrugBank database may be matched algorithmically to a clinical trial in which it is given, appearing in the "Clinical trials" section of the drug entry 3. Clinical trial data displayed in DrugBank is extracted from government clinical trial databases. The commercial version includes clinical trial title, phase, status, dates, and conditions with associated ICD10 or MedDRA identifiers.
